Here in my home district (MO-04) we have been sending Ike “the Skeleton” Skelton to represent us in the U.S. Congress. He has duped us with claims of being an independent voice for us in congress, but the fact is he has voted with Speaker Nancy Pelosi 95% of the time. Due to his “Pelosi lap-dog” status he is getting huge amounts of campaign funding to defend his seat, but we are fighting back. Despite the false attack ads Skelton continues to run he and his challenger, Vicky Hartzler, are in a virtual tie, according to the polls.
This coming Wednesday is Vicky Hartzler’s birthday, and in honor of this occasion her campaign is holding a moneybomb, “$20.10 for victory in 2010.” (This is also the point of the awesome new graphic on the sidebar of this blog.) This your chance to help us “clean the ‘skeleton’ out of our closet!!!
And from her campaign, ”As a special treat for the moneybomb, Vicky Hartzler is counting down the days this week with the Top Five Reasons to Spike Ike this November:”
Reason #1: Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!
As everyone knows, our economy is in a rough patch and is not creating enough jobs even to keep up with the number of people newly entering the job market each month. Congressman Skelton has not fought for policies that create jobs. On the contrary, he supports policies that destroy jobs and weaken our economy.
- Mr. Skelton votes in support of the liberal Pelosi/Obama economic agenda by voting for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. The Pelosi agenda includes a European-style Value-Added Tax (V.A.T.) that will increase the price of goods at every stage of production.
- Mr. Skelton voted for higher deficits and debt through Obama/Pelosi budgets, stimulus and bailouts.
- Mr. Skelton voted for Cap and Trade, which would levy a huge regressive tax on Missourians.
- Mr. Skelton voted to adjourn Congress without extending the Bush tax cuts.
- Mr. Skelton and the Democrats even failed to produce a budget for this fiscal year, one of Congress’s most basic responsibilities.
Unlike Mr. Skelton, I know how jobs are created. As co-owner of Hartzler Equipment Company, which has three stores in the 4th Congressional District, I’ve run a business and I’ve had to make payroll. When it comes to creating jobs, I know that the only things that will work are free enterprise, a stable policy environment, and the proven genius of America. It is not the reckless federal spending, job-destroying tax increases, takeovers of private business, bailouts for irresponsible decisions, ruinous deficits and debt, and threats of future tax hikes and even more regulation backed by the liberal-voting Ike Skelton.
I also taught home economics, where my students learned that Step One is balancing income and spending. If you earn $2,000 per month, you can’t spend $3,000. What about this does Washington not understand? America’s economy has been the leader of the world for generations because America’s genius is freedom, hard work, education, and enterprise. After the plain and terrible failure of Skelton’s chosen policies, we know too well that printing press money, borrowing more money from China, pork barrel spending, “stimulus” bills and broken promises of jobs will not work and must not continue.
I am committed to reducing the tax burden in order to stimulate job creation. I have a record of proven resolve on low taxes. In the Missouri legislature, I worked for lower taxes on families, job creators and seniors, and voted against every major tax increase bill that came our way. Last November I signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform promising to not support any tax increases. In addition, I also have signed pledges to eliminate the estate tax and to oppose the V.A.T. In Congress, I will support an immediate end to the wasteful and inefficient pork-barrel spending, a Balanced Budget Amendment and line-item veto, and a freeze on new spending except for our national defense, Medicare, and Social Security.
I will be a representative of the people of the 4th District, creating a pro-job environment to replace the reckless spending that is so prevalent in Washington. I will start on Day One, in January 2011, VOTING to build a future of growth and opportunity for Americans and their families. The out-of-control federal deficit is a national emergency and is hindering job creation. Most of us in the Fourth District know this. It is time for a change—the kind that will restore fiscal responsibility to our nation’s finances and safeguard our children’s futureIf you agree that jobs and economic security are the #1 problem facing America, please give $20.10 to our victory in 2010!
