Glenn Beck’s Restoring honor rally today was a huge success…
In that article it says there were about 100,000 in attendance. I have read stuff that said there were over 500,000, but I’m skeptical. Considering the fact that random, made-up numbers tend to fly around these type of gatherings…
I love the fact that they honored Albert Pujols for his charity work, thats pretty cool in my opinion…
Here CNN talks about the fact that Beck used this opportunity to call for Americans to “Turn back to God”
Theres a quote in that article in which Beck is estimating the number in attendance, “The reflecting pool holds about 200,000 people. This field back here holds about 250- to 300,000 people. They are not only full here, they’re full in that field, they’re full behind me, and they are now across the street approaching the Washington Monument.” Maybe those estimates aren’t all that crazy after all. Hmmmmm…
Any way, it was an overall good day for Beck and a ray of hope for those of us who think America is in danger of falling apart if we, as a people, don’t do something to save our country… Apparently there are a lot of people willing to do something!
Update: In my quick write up I forgot to mention something fairly obvious: the Left has its collective panties in a bunch… Calling this rally, where they are honoring troops and charitable celebrities, and talking about God, a gathering of “…hate-mongering and angry white people.” Hehehe… Classic.
Also, Sarah Palin gave what I’ve read is worthwhile speech (read it here). I personally haven’t read it ,because I’ve been doing school work; but the recommendation comes from The Other McCain so I feel pretty good about it…
Update #2: Why is there so much anger about this rally? Why the claims of angry hate-mongering whites? Does anybody actually know what was talked about? Here is a headline from The New York Times At the Lincoln Memorial, a Call for Religious Rebirth, and another from POLITICO Glenn Beck calls for national revival… And here are some of the “hate mongering” that went on according to those articles…
“Beck, a fiery conservative populist, had urged his followers to leave political signs at home. He said that he wanted to celebrate America’s military personnel and accounted that the rally raised $5.5 million, which would go to the veterans’ charity Special Operations Warrior Foundation after defraying event costs.” (POLITICO)
” ‘Something that is beyond man is happening,’ Mr. Beck said in opening the event as the crowd thronged near the memorial grounds. ‘America today begins to turn back to God.’ ” (NYT)
“President Barack Obama was not referred to by name on stage once during the three-and-a-half hour program.” (POLITICO)
Absolutely vile isn’t it? Raising money for veterans and other hateful stuff like that… Shame on you Glenn Beck! (tsk, tsk)
And this is what each of those articles had to say about attendance…
“…event organizers put the number of attendees at 500,000; NBC News said it was closer to 300,000, but by any measure it was a large turnout. The crowd stretched from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument.” (NYT)
“The crowd stretched from the memorial to the base of the Washington Monument, about a mile away, as Beck took the stage after the singing of the national anthem. ‘Hello, America. I have just gotten word from the media that there is over a thousand people here today,’ Beck said, with a hint of sarcasm. He later said he had heard the crowd was between 300,000 and 500,000, ‘and if that’s coming from the media, God only knows.’ ” (POLITICO)
Maybe I was a bit cynical earlier, but now I am happy to be wrong. Apparently the turnout was HUGE! Just check out that picture at the top of the page… If you’ve ever walked that mall on a trip to D.C., I have, you know that thing is not small. There are a few people out there. Haha…
